The most famous named mountain formation on Leka is Lekamøya, a vertical rock formation named from the famous saga about the mountains at the Helgeland coast. Lekamøya was the beautiful maiden escaping from Hestmannen and turned to stone
as the sun rose. Lekamøya is a popular local hiking destination with a marked hiking trail. Lekamøya and the surrounding bedrock is gabbro. Along the trail one passes several examples of the old sea levels: wave abraded rocks, kettle holes and raised
Lekamøya is a raised sea-stack formed by frost shattering and sea-ice abrasion during a relative sea level standstill in Younger Dryas. The cold period resulted in extensive bedrock erosion on the entire island and this led to the formation of peculiar seastacks, like Lekamøya and Solsemløva.
This is a touristic site, used both by the locals and foreigners.
